Posted by Delilah Rosario | June 2025

At NXG Notary, we know the notarization process can raise a lot of questions—especially if it’s your first time. To help you feel confident and prepared, we’ve put together answers to the most common questions we receive.

✅ What is a Notary Public?

A notary public is a state-appointed official who verifies identity, witnesses signatures, and helps prevent fraud during important transactions. We ensure your document signing is legal, accurate, and secure.

📄 What Types of Documents Can Be Notarized?

We notarize a wide variety of documents, including:

  • Power of Attorney

  • Wills and Estate Planning Forms

  • Real Estate Closings & Loan Documents

  • Apostille Requests

  • I-9 Employment Forms

  • Medical Authorizations

  • Parental Travel Consent Forms

  • Business Agreements

🆔 What ID Do I Need to Bring?

You’ll need a valid government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms include:

  • Driver’s License

  • State ID

  • Passport

  • Military ID

Your ID must be current or not expired for more than 3 years (per Illinois guidelines).

🚗 Do You Offer Mobile Notary Services?

Yes! We’re a 24/7 mobile notary service—we come to you. Whether you're at home, at work, in the hospital, or at a care facility, we bring the notary service directly to your location.

💻 What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?

With RON, you can complete your notarization online using secure audio-visual technology—no in-person meeting required. It’s fast, convenient, and accepted in the state of Illinois.

💰 How Much Does Notarization Cost?

Here’s a quick overview of standard fees in Illinois:

  • General Notarization: Up to $5 per signature

  • Remote Online Notarization: Up to $25 per session

  • Mobile Travel Fee, After-Hours, & Holiday Services: Varies by distance and timing

  • Specialty Services (Apostilles, Loan Signings, etc.): Priced separately

✍️ Should I Sign My Document Before Meeting the Notary?

No. Always wait to sign in front of the notary unless instructed otherwise. This helps ensure your document is properly notarized and legally valid.

⚖️ Can You Give Legal Advice or Draft Documents?

No—we are not attorneys. Notaries are not allowed to interpret, draft, or provide legal advice unless separately licensed as attorneys.
